Vintage Folly still fresh

November 11th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

Permission’s victory last week was good news for us and I thought she did well to wriggle out of an awkward position on the rails. She started at 7/2 but was bigger than that in the morning so I hope you made it pay.

I stay with the turf season to the final curtain and am hoping that Hugo Palmer’s VINTAGE FOLLY can do us a similar good turn on Saturday. She is in the Listed race for fillies at Doncaster after a light season which saw her finish second to Shutter Speed at York back in the spring, fail in talented Group 2 company at Saint-Cloud, where she was probably ‘wrong’ anyway and then, after a gap, run a very good second in a handy listed race by Yarmouth standards last time. She will be at her best here and looks the one to beat.

Otherwise, I have a feeling that Marcus Tregoning’s DANCE THE DREAM will not be quite good enough in the November Handicap but she won well at Leicester last time, doing callers to the line a major favour in the process, and is only 3lb higher with Tyler Saunders’ 7lb claim again likely to prove a factor. It’s a very hard race, however, and she can be only an each-way shout.

I shall stay with PASTIME in the apprentice handicap at 1.00 after his good second over course and distance a fortnight ago. I think that was the day we needed him, however, and it was galling to see the long-time leader fight back to deny him in the dying strides. He is fit and well and is another with win and place claims.
