Tis Marvellous Is … Marvellous!

July 24th, 2016 | Marten's Current Racing Diary

Tis Marvellous ran out a very comfortable winner of the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte this afternoon, beating last month’s Queen Mary Stakes runner-up Al Johrah by two and a half lengths, with Norfolk Stakes winner Prince Of Lir a disappointing fifth of six.

This was a second success in the race in five years for Clive Cox and owners Julie Deadman and Stephen Barrow, who landed the race in 2012 with Reckless Abandon.

The colt’s next target may be another trip to France for the Prix Morny in August and he could not be in better hands.

Convey rewarded an enterprising piece of placing when winning the Listed Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract. Convey is a fragile horse that takes some knowing, which is probably the reason Ryan Moore travelled north for this one ride.

Glorious Goodwood starts on Tuesday and I see the forecast for the area is generally fine with the possibility of a few showers on Wednesday. I am producing a Snapshot service for each of the five days, so if you are interested then please refer to the Online Shop or speak to someone in my office.

Bye for now
