The BHA Ruling

February 12th, 2019 | Marten's Current Racing Diary

Hi there,

Although the news that racing can resume on Wednesday was very welcome the BHA’s ruling that no entries will be accepted from horses that have not been vaccinated in the previous six months may extend the period of exclusion in certain cases for a while longer, as I believe that a horse cannot run for eight days following the vaccination.

It remains to be seen which yards will be affected and, looking ahead, the impact the enforced break will have on horses that are being prepared for Cheltenham and the spring festivals.

This, of course, follows a sustained and highly unusual period of dry weather, with many of the soft/heavy-ground specialists currently lightly raced or, perhaps, not even raced at all.

As a consequence there may be very unusual if not unique factors to bear in mind this Cheltenham, especially if the rain returns and the ground becomes soft.

Bye for now

Marten
