Red Pike has each-way prospects

September 29th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

I had a passing thought about Saturday’s Cambridgeshire, which was that Dark Red, unsuited by the slow early pace in a four-runner affair at Doncaster, would enjoy the much faster gallop here and merited a small each-way bet at 33/1. Unfortunately, Ed Dunlop has switched him to a decent but far less valuable handicap at Chelmsford, where I think he will run well but the pace is not guaranteed.
Newmarket is always very difficult on this particular day but I hope THREADING will follow up her victory in the Lowther at York when she steps up to the top grade in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes. It will be close and she needed to be driven out on the Knavesmire but that may be the best form and Mark Johnston’s juveniles continue to run well.

When I was away in Canada I recommended Bryan Smart’s RED PIKE in a competitive Ripon handicap. I thought going up 6lb for his second in the Great St Wilfrid consolation was harsh and he could manage only third. The task is no more straightforward in the City Of The Dales Handicap on Saturday but he has only a handful below him in the weights when Adam McNamara claims and I feel he will be on the premises again.Soie d’Leau did callers to the line a good turn on Monday and I quite fancied his chances of following up in the 2.40 at Haydock. He won’t mind the heavy ground but this was surely the time to book a good 5lb claimer to offset the 6lb penalty. I don’t know why trainers can’t see this and in Soie d’Leau’s

He won’t mind the heavy ground but this was surely the time to book a good 5lb claimer to offset the 6lb penalty. I don’t know why trainers can’t see this and in Soie d’Leau’s case it could make the difference between winning and making the frame. Rasheeq towards the foot of the handicap is one of several dangers.Milton Bradley DOES use a good boy on ENGLISHMAN, who contests the 3.50. Maybe Englishman does best at Windsor but he was not disgraced last time and will continue to give a good account of himself. You certainly don’t want to be carrying too much weight

Milton Bradley DOES use a good boy on ENGLISHMAN, who contests the 3.50. Maybe Englishman does best at Windsor but he was not disgraced last time and will continue to give a good account of himself. You certainly don’t want to be carrying too much weight in this ground at Haydock and he is at the right end of the handicap.I find the rescheduled and revamped sprint handicap which now carries the 32Red name as opposed to the Ayr one very hard. Shanghai Glory won’t mind the ground and is just the pick but I feel more strongly about SIGNS OF BLESSING, who goes in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Chantilly on Sunday. The Arc, just about my favourite race, is fascinating but not truly a punting medium this year. I think Enable is a very poor price and will have trouble in confirming King George form with Ulysses but there are many other dangers as well. I’m not convinced the Yorkshire Oaks outing helped in any way and this comes at the end of a long and quite demanding season. If you are going in heavily I wish you well but there is no value in her price.
