Permission in good heart

November 3rd, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

Last week’s results were something of a mixed bag and it was galling to see both Roaring Lion and Pastime beaten a neck, especially as both looked like winning half furlong from home. 8/1 and 9/1 would have done nicely.

I have mentioned often enough that I stay with the Flat turf season to the bitter end so this is a fairly short message. PASTIME had quite a hard race last week and I am not normally one for tipping anything seven days on. However, he had had a two-month break before his Doncaster exertions and should go close once again in Newmarket’s finale for 2017, the 4.00 on Saturday.

I had not anticipated such a large field but he is very well and should handle the extra furlong without too much trouble. He is an each-way bet at around 10/1 with Adam Kirby a good booking by Gay Kelleway.

I like to stay with James Fanshawe over the closing weeks and he may have chosen the right sort of outlet for the filly PERMISSION in the Listed event over a mile and a quarter at 2.55. Permission might have gone for the mile race a little later on but that will be quite warmly contested and she showed her well-being when second to Chain Of Daisies here last time. Permission has not had too hard a campaign, which can be very important as we enter November, and she will take the beating here.
