Owls for top flight return…

May 13th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Sports News

Punters experience very few miracles in the long battle against the old enemy but Newcastle overhauling Brighton by virtue of a ten-man Aston Villa equaliser was one such. They were the star nap bet of the season and I hope you made a handsome profit.

Far less clever was my suggestion that Liverpool would put a few past Southampton, who defended well at Anfield for the second time this season. But No Mane No Liverpool is the way to view things because he is hugely important to them

I still think it was the right call, because a modest Arsenal team opened up the Saints on Wednesday evening to keep their Champions League hopes alive. In my opinion there will be major changes at St Mary’s quite soon and I rather doubt that Claude Puel will survive. If you can’t score goals you can’t win and things must be wrong on the training ground. If Southampton lose Van Dijk and try to start next season with broadly the same squad they will be in serious trouble very quickly. And if they fail to score again on Saturday, 3/1 about relegated Boro is a fair price.

West Ham are overpriced at 4/1 against Liverpool, while Tottenham are a vastly superior team to Manchester United at present but 8/11 is a shade tight, especially with Chelsea having made sure of the title.

In Swansea’s position I think I’d opt for a draw at Sunderland in the hope that Crystal Palace will account for Hull. The point is that Palace are not one hundred per cent safe and I think they will edge a nervy encounter.

On current form you could argue that Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham are the two best teams in the Championship play-offs and Huddersfield the weakest. On balance, though, I’d rather back SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY outright at 5/2 to be promoted (they were 5/1 at the start of the season) than speculate on the opening matches this weekend. I believe it will be a Fulham v Wednesday final and you might check the best price about that happening.

Sunderland v Swansea 10 units THE DRAW at 14/5

CRYSTAL PALACE 20 units at 11/10 to beat Hull

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 20 units at 5/2 to be promoted
