Newcastle solid enough again

March 31st, 2018 | Ian Carnaby's Sports News

Updating over Easter is never easy, given family commitments, etc. Things were also made trickier this weekend with nearly a full football programme on Good Friday  –  another win for Fulham and the each-way ante-post bet is starting to look attractive again.

As far as Saturday’s Premier League matches are concerned, the key game in the relegation struggle is clearly West Ham v Southampton. I think this is very tricky to call, though at least the 90 minutes should be played out without interruption. Whether there will be demonstrations beforehand is another matter and how many of those involved represent genuine, bone fide supporters clubs is another imponderable.

I thought Newcastle were good things to beat Southampton three weeks ago and their recent improvement should see them account for Huddersfield, again at St James’s Park. The Terriers are making a fist of staying up but they are woefully short of goals and that means it will often take only one to beat them. Perez, in particular, looks dangerous and it surprises me that Newcastle are widely available at 3 to 4.

I’d avoid a very short price about Liverpool at Crystal Palace, who look dangerous enough at home to score a goal or two. As I’ve been writing, I don’t think Palace will go down and I suppose Swansea are starting to feel a shade more comfortable as well, although I doubt they will take anything from the visit to Manchester United and it’s worth bearing in mind that they still have to play Southampton at home. There is work to do yet.

NEWCASTLE 20 units at 3 to 4 to beat Huddersfield
