Marten Julian’s Weekly Roundup 23 December 2024

January 6th, 2025 | Marten's Perspective

If everything goes according to plan … and in this game we have to accept things can change at the last minute … it looks as if Lossiemouth will meet Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Thursday.

Although Constitution Hill is defending an eight-race unbeaten record, I expect him to prove weak in the market, with Lossiemouth starting at odds-on from her current Evens.

As you are aware Constitution Hill had an attack of colic in late March and it is often the case that horses are never quite the same afterwards. This, together with his poor workout at Kempton before last season’s Champion Hurdle, and then his touch of lameness in preparation for this season’s Fighting Fifth, suggests that the last thing Nicky Henderson wants is for the dual Festival winner to receive a hard race.

The progressive Burdett Road could try to make the running in an intriguing clash.

With an open King George and Galopin Des Champs and Fact To File meeting in Saturday’s Savills Chase at Leopardstown we are due for an enthralling week.

I am releasing my Daily Bulletins for Boxing Day and Coral Welsh Grand National day. Please contact Rebecca with any queries. Her email is rebecca@martenjulian.com

There will not be a Roundup next week and I close by wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Bye for now
