Makzeem handily weighted here

July 29th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

As predicted, Richard Fahey won the Weatherbys Super Sprint. The 12/1 chance Bengali Boys was not widely tipped but the point is that you have to cover everything because Fahey is a master when it comes to picking up bargains at the sales, often with this particular race in mind.

There is a similar glut of high-quality racing this weekend and I am happy that Fahey’s RIGHT TOUCH misses the big Ascot handicap in favour of the 2.00 at York. I feel MAKZEEM is the one to be on at Ascot, a couple having dropped out to let him in. It is unusual to see a Roger Charlton-trained horse this low in the weights but Makzeem escapes a 4lb increase for his good second at Newmarket and it will be very difficult to keep him out of the frame.

Right Touch was entered for the Ascot race but will be happier at York, where I feel he has a very good chance on his best form. He was disappointing last time but Fahey can bring horses back for valuable prizes like this and I think we can expect a better performance.

The King George does not appeal as a betting medium but GEORGIAN BAY will appreciate Katie Walsh’s handling in the ladies’ race.

Richard Hannon’s EQTIRAAN misses the Sky Bet Dash at York in favour of a competitive sprint at Newmarket and top weight may not stop him from going very close.
