Kasbah happy at Lingfield

March 4th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

We came to no great harm last week, with both Blue Surf and Evening Hush finishing second. It may not be easy to catch Blue Surf now but Amanda Perrett should be able to find a fair mile and half handicap on the AW before the turf season clicks into gear.

I do not have the details about ARTHUR’S SECRET’s move from John Quinn to Scottish handler Sandy Thomson but there is no doubt the latter is a dab hand with horses needing a distance of ground. Arthur’s Secret has improved since being stepped up to three miles and must have a leading chance in the opener at Doncaster on Saturday, especially with Rachael McDonald taking the weight down to 9st 13lb.

Jamie Moore is arguably the most underrated senior jockey in the weighing room and the fact that he takes the ride on Kerry Lee’s HAPPY DIVA in the mares’ Listed race prompts me to bet at a short price. The only worry is her schedule because she has been busy enough lately but her good run at Grade 2 level makes her easily the form choice.

Not for the first time in recent weeks I have been hit by a couple of non-runners. Paul Nicholls has taken High Secret out of the good handicap hurdle at Newbury and Bowson Fred misses the Betway Handicap at Lingfield. Therefore I shall stay with Amanda Perrett and KASBAH, who has taken a real shine to the course, is drawn low enough and has the assistance of Joe Fanning. He is the nap of the day.
