Introducing Laura Joy

May 16th, 2022 | Marten Julian Team Publication News

Laura is a new contributor to our team and has written an article in our Two-Year-Old Guide on first crop sires. Here you can learn a little more about her.

I developed my passion for racing late in life relative to most, coming from a non-equine background. I always liked it, but it wasn’t until I met like-minded friends at University where I began to learn I could pave a career in racing that didn’t involve being a jockey (first dream!).

Upon graduation, I did yearling prep and sales in Kentucky before ending up in Newmarket for six years, where I was fortunate to work for Luca Cumani, William Haggas and Michael Bell in various capacities. However, the majority of my education in pedigrees came at Shadwell Stud, where I joined Carol Palfreyman in the pedigree department until relocating back home to Tipperary to my current role in pedigree research last July.

I am relishing the opportunity to share what I have learned and continue to learn about the mysterious world of thoroughbred pedigrees with the racing public and professionals. It was a great honour to contribute to The Two-Year-Old Guide for 2022. My main hope for the season is that the first crop sires live up to their pedigrees! My long-term goal for my career is to see my name next to a Classic winner listed as ‘Breeder’.
