Gulliver Still Travelling Well

November 24th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

It is fair to say I have not adjusted to the new NH season just yet and I am keeping investments on the modest side until a few form-lines start coming good.

Sizing John misses the Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Haydock, a sensible decision in the light of the way the course rides when the word ‘heavy’ appears in the going description. I shall support CLAN DES OBEAUX in the graduation chase because he will have come on following a highly encouraging second on his seasonal reappearance but nothing else takes the eye at the Lancashire track.

Alan King is flying and Smad Place did well to win the other day, recalling some of his best moments. He may need further than the 2m 5f of Ascot’s Grade 2 Christy 1965 Chase, however, and FRODON is one of several more than capable of taking advantage. Paul Nicholls had Frodon at his best at around this time last year and the former multiple champion trainer can enjoy a successful afternoon.

You can never be sure when horses will suddenly cry enough and Hugo Palmer’s GULLIVER has been busy enough lately. He keeps on winning, though, and has another very good chance in the conditions race at Lingfield (1.15). It would be an appropriate way for Josephine Gordon to celebrate her ‘ton’ in the calendar year.
