Extraordinary West Ham Value

July 29th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Sports News

You may want to wait for the Racing Post’s comprehensive football guide before risking hard cash on the coming season but there are a couple of early points to make.

FULHAM looked easily the best team in the Championship play-offs but somehow managed to mess things up against Reading after looking as if they were taking part in a practice match of attack against defence. They are coming good at long last and represent excellent each-way value this time around at 9/1 or better.

Wilson’s prices arrived on the mat this week and I must say one match bet in the Premier League startled me. 8/13 Leicester v 5/4 West Ham is one of the great value bets of recent years because the Hammers are upwardly mobile, have made four astute signings and will surely finish in the top half, even on the heels of the top six. Leicester, on the other hand, may well level out after giving Paul Shakespeare such excellent service last term following the exit of Claudio Ranieri.

I don’t think Leicester’s title success was a fluke but neither do I think it was a vintage year. They levelled right out under Ranieri and we don’t know the full story of what went on behind the scenes. Shakespeare steadied the ship and actually achieved more than that, moving the Foxes out of danger and into mid-table.

Whether he can replicate that success remains to be seen but these things have a habit of levelling out and there is still the question mark hanging over Mahrez. West Ham, on the other hand, seems to be well equipped for a much better campaign this time around. I’d have a very good bet on them at 5/4, though it seems a surprisingly good price and it may well have vanished as I write these notes. Do not play at shorter than 10/11.
