Defi Du Seuil Plans

March 8th, 2017 | Marten's Current Racing Diary

Hi there,

Philip Hobbs has confirmed that Defi Du Seuil will not be among the entries for Tuesday’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, leaving Richard Johnson to take the mount in the Triumph Hurdle.

Johnson also rides the consistent VillageVic in either the Ryanair or the Brown Advisory Plate.

Harry Fry says that Neon Wolf will be among the five-day acceptors for the Supreme Hurdle. At present the Neptune is the more likely option, but the trainer says he wants to assess the going and strength of each race before making a commitment. I imagine that if the rain comes down and the ground rides soft then they may well be tempted to switch to the Supreme.

Camping Ground, who ran out such an emphatic winner of the National Spirit Hurdle, is highly unlikely to run next week. Gary Moore would prefer to save the horse for 2m 4f Betway Hurdle at Aintree, although a deluge at Cheltenham could cause a rethink. The £20,000 supplementary fee for the Champion Hurdle would need to be paid today.

Daphne Du Clos, who was second favourite for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper, will miss the race. Nicky Henderson says that the race will come too soon for her.

Malcolm Jefferson will be hoping for a successful opening day, with Cloudy Dream in the Arkle, Cyrus Darius in the Champion Hurdle and Double W’s in the Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase.

Bye for now
