Briery Queen ready for this test

January 6th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

It’s a shorter blog this week with the racing fairly ordinary apart from two or three contests at Sandown.

I shall be accused of bias where SAINT ARE is concerned but he did us a good turn when second in the National the season before last and his fall at the first in the Becher Chase the other day does not mean that he has deteriorated. Of course, I concede Aintree suits him best and he needs further than the three miles of the very valuable handicap chase for veterans but the ground should not be too soft and I hope he can reward a small each-way bet.

Otherwise the only one I like is BRIERY QUEEN in the Listed hurdle for mares earlier on. She did it well at Cheltenham, is ultra-consistent and should make a bold bid to keep an excellent run going. Paul Nicholls wins Saturday races like this for fun and Lifeboat Mona is quite possibly the main danger but there will be some value about Briery Queen and this is the right race for her at this stage of her career.
