It’s a case of quality over quantity at Kempton on Boxing Day, with the two top races attracting just five-horse fields.

Jenkins will be at short odds in the opener, while we have a very decent renewal of the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase, with Anibale Fly clashing with the highly progressive Frodon and Might Bite. I marginally favour The New One over Yanworth and My Tent Or Yours in the Christmas Hurdle while Josses Hill could set the King George field a merry dance and last a little longer than some people may expect. I will be intrigued to see if Tom Scudamore tries to take him on for the lead on Thistlecrack – a tactic which, in my view, would be ill advised.

Elsewhere on Boxing Day I may have news for Huntingdon, Sedgefield and Wincanton but my best news may be for Leopardstown, where Simply Ned travels over for a third crack at the Paddy Power Chase. Gallant Oscar may also be interesting in the Paddy Power Handicap Chase and I have strong views on the novices’ hurdle, but more of that on Monday.

It only remains for me to thank you for your support this last 12 months and to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous 2017.

Bye for now
