Blue Point has more to offer

August 20th, 2016 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

It was a splendid day for the line on Friday with Quest For More, Nemoralia and Babyfact all going in. They were horses we’d waited for and everything worked out well, though it was important to be up and about early  –  it always is  – to make sure of the value. Quest For More was actually 11/1 in some lists but ended up at 9/2.

I hope we haven’t used up all the ammunition in one go because there are many meetings on Saturday. The Ebor at York looks tricky  –  more on the line in the morning  –  but I think Godolphin’s BLUE POINT has a very good chance in the Gimcrack. A wide-margin winner the time before last, Blue Point looked like beating Mehmas at Goodwood but could not quite get back at him after losing a yard on the run to the line. Twice he was nearly level again and I formed the impression that he was still rather green in a tight finish. He looks a very good prospect.

Otherwise I’d look carefully at a couple of Richard Fahey’s runners elsewhere around the country. RIGHT TOUCH is more effective at seven furlongs plus than six and has every chance from a low draw in the 3.50 at Chester, while stable-companion SHOWBIZZY is the only one to have made the long haul to Bath for a fairly modest-looking sprint handicap at 6.35. This will not take much winning and Shane Kelly is an interesting booking.
