Another Saturday bonanza for Fahey?

June 25th, 2016 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

For the last couple of years Richard Fahey has been carrying all before him on busy summer Saturdays and this weekend looks like producing more of the same.

The problem, of course, concerns races where he has more than one runner. This makes it difficult to go in for combination bets, trebles, accumulators etc, unless you’re prepared to work out a perm. I stop short of that and tend to focus on two or three of the trainer’s runners which have leading claims on the form book. A fortnight ago we got it right with Lexi’s Hero and something similar would be most acceptable.

Lexi’s Hero goes again in the 4.00 at Chester but he will not be allowed an easy lead this time with Blithe Spirit in the field. We were a shade unlucky not to nick a place in the Epsom “Dash”, where Blithe Spirit was right there all the way but lost two places close home to finish fifth.

The following race is another five-furlong handicap and here I think BALLESTEROS will go very close after chasing up Lexi’s Hero in the race mentioned above. He is coming back into form and possibly has most to fear from Mick Channon’s King Crimson.

My main regret so far this season was not backing Dandy Nicholls’ Blaine as well as George Bowen in the last at Epsom on Derby day. Blaine was very well handicapped on his old form and had the assistance Kieren Fallon – a real job on hand if ever there was one. He has gone up, of course, and must concede GEORGE BOWEN a pound this time. Fahey’s grey can take his revenge but it’s tempting to cover both.

Fahey sends Growl to Windsor for a valuable sprint handicap but the horse has more to do than at Nottingham recently. I shall wait for his GABRIAL in the next because these are the right sort of opponents for last year’s Lincoln winner, who has taken on some of the very best milers around without ever being disgraced.

Just coming away from the Fahey bandwagon, I think Sir Mark Prescott’s MOSCATO has win and place prospects in the Northumberland Plate.
