A Trainer To Note
May 24th, 2022 | Marten's Current Racing Diary
I have a great deal of respect for David Menuisier.
He places his horses extremely well and talks eloquently and with insight about their prospects or achievements.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on with Lionel, who looks a natural for the St Leger in the long-term but may be capable of running creditably in the Irish Derby before then.
The colt’s owner Phillipa Cooper, of Normandie Stud, will have strong views on the colt’s programme.
At a lower level the trainer should have some fun with Flamenco Fan, who won the 6f novice stakes at Windsor on Monday evening.
The daughter of Dark Angel shaped well when third and fourth in her two starts last season, both at Newmarket, and then ran last of eight over a mile on her return to action at Saint-Cloud earlier this month.
Dropped back to six furlongs she made virtually all the running to beat the 2/5 favourite Love Trophy Power by three lengths.
This half-sister to 6f Group 1 Middle Park winner Charming Thought does not lack speed but I expect her to stay the mile in time.
She can win a handicap or two before trying to earn some back type for her owner breeder.
Bye for now
