“The Derby and Oaks Festival at Epsom is my favourite meeting of the year. It’s where my love of racing first started … way back in 1970, when I was on the Downs to watch Raffingora achieve the fastest five furlongs ever recorded under 10 stone. In the 55 years since then I have targeted this meeting and enjoyed great success, focusing on the idiosyncratic requirements of this unique track.
It looks as if this week’s meeting will be taking place on easy ground, which is particularly welcome for two of my selections, while I’ll be passing on my insights for fascinating renewals of the Derby and Oaks.
I hope that you’ll be joining me for what promises to be an intriguing and hugely informative couple of days.”

“Both Classics at Epsom have an open feel, and I’ve already made the case for taking on the favourite in the Oaks, with a similar argument to follow for the Derby on Saturday. I also fancy a handicap hurdler in a low-key race at Hexham, while on Sunday – depending on declarations – a hurdler looks poised to strike for the first time in 11 months at Perth. In addition, a couple already jocked up at Goodwood have caught the eye.“
