“It’s a mixed bag of racing this weekend, with the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday and the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday. Neither race looks straightforward, with uncertainty over the state of the ground following this spell of extreme heat. We have meetings at Cartmel on Friday and Sunday, with plenty of local interest, and I have news for a highly-regarded two-year-old debutant at one of the lower-profile fixtures.”

“Despite the searing heat, we’ve got a fascinating day in store at Cartmel tomorrow where a couple of horses have really caught my eye as ones who could be much better than their recent form suggests. On Saturday, I’ll be making the case for a Newcastle runner whose form lines I’ve followed closely, before we return to Cartmel on Sunday with several more fancies to get stuck into. I may also have something for us over at the Curragh.“
