Houblon can go close

January 14th, 2017 | Ian Carnaby's Racing News

This is one of those weekends when things have not worked out in that three of the four horses I was looking at will not be in action. Briefly, impressive Cheltenham winner Call To Order misses the Pertemps Qualifier at Warwick, stable- companion Champagne At Tara avoids a tricky novices’ chase earlier on and Venetia Williams Aso is not asked to step out of handicap company in a good Listed chase at Sandown.
Therefore this is a brief message but Williams’ HOUBLON DES OBEAUX has a chance in the Betfred Classic Handicap Chase at Warwick, his welter burden of 11st 12lb reduced 3lb by Charlie Deutsche’s claim.

It is still an onerous task but Houblon Des Obeaux did very well in the Coral Welsh National and was going as well as impressive winner Native Power when they turned for home. He weakened soon afterwards but still finished a fair third and it was a fine effort on his seasonal reappearance. The stable is going well at present and Ms Williams is a force to be reckoned with in big handicaps on Saturdays.

There is little else to enthuse over but some pretty ordinary sprinters go for the Class 3 handicap at Lingfield (1.25) and Mark Johnston’s Kingsley Klarion should go very close from a handy low draw.
